‘Japanese Series’ Sideboard by Cees Braakman for UMS Pastoe
A stunning and rare black example of the iconic Japanese Series sideboard designed by Cees Braakman for UMS Pastoe in the late 1950s. This piece is celebrated for its clean lines, balanced proportions, and timeless modernist character—true hallmarks of Braakman’s design language.
Crafted from ebonized (black-stained) teak, the sideboard features the series’ signature minimalist rectangular black handles, which add a graphic and architectural touch. The elegantly designed base lifts the cabinet visually, giving it a subtle floating appearance that enhances its refined simplicity.
Presented in general good vintage condition with only minor signs of wear, this is a highly collectible example of Dutch mid-century design—both understated and striking.
Dimensions; 185 × 73 × 45 cm
